Kicking off 2022 with a few book reviews for you! It's my goal to do these posts monthly, which will hopefully help me keep up with sharing them! But, if you want real time reviews you might want to follow along on Goodreads or over on Instagram

Wish You Were Here by Jodi Picoult

Basically: It's March 2020. Diana and her boyfriend Finn have been planning a dream trip to the Galapagos. Finn works at a hospital and finds out he can't go because its all hands on deck. But, he insists Diana go on the trip anyway. When the whole island ends up under quarantine Diana finds herself stranded.

My Thoughts: 😞 I did not like this book at all. Ugh, and I had such high hopes! First of all, its obviously about the pandemic and it was WAY to soon for me to read about it. We are still in a pandemic and this was so heavy on the politics and sadness that it made me feel awful. Besides all that though, I really really disliked Diana and almost gave up reading it just because I couldn't stand her and her decisions. The only reason I didn't DNF was because I was blown away by the twist. Totally gasped out loud! I thought when I got to that part it would turn around but it just got stranger and heavier.

Rating: 2.5 stars ⭐️⭐️💫

The Soulmate Equation by Christina Lauren

Basically: Jess is a single mom and scientist, and completely uninterested in dating. But, when she is invited to submit a DNA sample to a brand new dating service that matches you with your soulmate - she succumbs in a moment of weakness. Things get super complicated we she is matched with the company's grumpy founder.

My Thoughts: It seems like there a few books with a similar plot to this? But nevertheless it was an easy read with tons of chemistry. (I really liked The Unhoneymooners and Love And Other Words also by Christina Lauren - more than this one)
Definitely some PG13 subject matter.

Rating: 3.5 rounded to 4 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen

Basically: Richard's first wife has been replaced with his younger secretary. Vanessa was used to a wealthy, leisurely lifestyle, but now that she's divorced -she's had to move in with her aunt and take a job in a department store. And now, Richard and her replacement are engaged, which just sends her already fragile state into a spiral, and she becomes obsessed with his new fiancée.

My Thoughts: I love Greer & Sarah books! You get just enough information to make this book such a page turner, and there are some great twists per usual. I will say I read this semi recently, and really had to struggle to remember all the details because it twists so many times, and maybe not in a good way.

Rating: 4 Stars from me! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Basically: Avery is in High School, just doing the bare minimum to get a scholarship and get out. But things completely change when a random billionaire dies and names her in his will. To inherit everything she has to move into his mansion with his very upset family and a surprising amount of secret passage ways.

My Thoughts: A super fun start to this YA series. I definitely enjoyed it enough to quickly check out book number 2 from the library. It felt like a cross between Clue and Knives Out and the Westing Game. I have two complaints, one of which being there were a lot of characters - and I'm just going to assume that's for the next books, but it was hard to keep everyone straight. Also, I'm sort of over the YA love triangle personally. Maybe that'll pay off in the next book.

Rating: 4 stars! Pushing 4.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

The Hawthorne Legacy by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Basically: Avery Grambs is an heiress of the huge fortune of a stranger. This is the 2nd book in the series, and continues the journey of Avery trying to figure out why this fortune was left to her instead of the billionaire's family.

My Thoughts: The first book ended with a pretty big cliffhanger, so I was eager to to pick this one up! And, it really does a great job continuing the story. Something that bothered me about the ending of the first book is quickly built upon and that made me happy! This series is fun and I love all the puzzle solving. It's not as good as the first book, which is common for a series, but I still enjoyed it. I'm just sorry I have to wait for book 3!

Rating: 3.5 stars from me. ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Daughter of the Pirate King & Daughter of the Siren Queen by Tricia Levenseller

Basically: 2 Book reviews in one! Alosa is a natural pirate, as her father is the most notorious pirate of all. She's sent on a mission to find a map for a hidden treasure and gets herself captured...on purpose.

My Thoughts: A super fun, exciting duology that will make you want to watch Pirates of the Caribbean! Alosa is a great character and I enjoyed both books as she finds her way. If you like YA and pirates, this book is for you.

Rating: 4 Stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sometimes I Lie by Alice Feeney

Basically: Amber wakes up and realizes she's in some sort of coma. She's aware, but can't speak or move. As she starts to remember things, she's pretty sure her husband has something to do with what happened. Told in 3 timelines - present, recent past, and through childhood diaries.

My Thoughts: Such a page turner! I guessed a twist pretty early on, but then they just kept coming and coming all the way until the end. In fact, it's so twisty I was left sort of confused at the end! It's honestly mind blowing and I had to talk it out to make sure I had it straight. (and I'm still not sure I do.)

Rating: 4 maybe 4.5 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

The Brilliant Life of Eudora Honeysett by Annie Lyons

Basically: Eudora is over it - life in general. She's 85 and really wants to die on her own terms. But, then a 10 year old glittery rainbow of a little girl named Rose moves in next door and rekindles a little joy in her life.

My Thoughts: Mostly, this story is heartwarming and sweet. It's a little boring in some parts and pretty predictable. But, I still enjoyed and thought it had a positive message.

Rating: 3 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️
