July Goals

Monday, July 2, 2018

I'm kicking off this first Monday in July with some organization and goal setting! I've seen this strategy work for so many other people, so I thought I'd try it myself. My new planner has 12 empty boxes that perfectly lend themselves to goal making. I'm going to keep it uncomplicated and low pressure with setting 5 achievable goals for the month.

Here's what I'm planning for July!
Choose a new Bible reading schedule and start it.
I truly believe reading the Bible everyday is the key to everything. While I have been steadfast with some sort of reading or studying each day, I haven't nailed down an organized way to do it. That's not to say I've been haphazard, but I would really like to have a more systematic schedule. In July, I want to pick a new schedule and start it.

Run 25 miles this month.
I'm not sure if I've mentioned it here yet, but I planning on running a 12k in October! That the longest distance I will ever have done, so I've started training already. I'm using the couch to 10k app for now, even though I'm not technically starting from the couch level. I just love the app and it keeps me on track. (Maybe you can tell I need a system for everything...) My schedule has me running at least 6 miles a week, so I threw in an extra mile for bonus points. I'm working on going faster while I have these short runs.

Sell bag of gently used clothing.
I cleaned out my closet as part of my 2018 challenge about 2 months ago. I have a big ole trash bag full of clothes (some with tags still on!) that I need to do something with. There is a great consignment shop in Gainesville, called Sandy's, that I was planning on taking it to. Well, in two months I haven't made the trip over. So I figure I need to list these things on Ebay or Poshmark. I love selling clothes that way, but it is a lot of work up front!

Start recording my gratitude list.
I mentioned in the post about my new planner that I've created a page each month that I can write down something I'm grateful for or a highlight of the day. It started yesterday! I'd really like to make this a daily ritual and get into the habit of writing something down before I go to bed. I think this will be a really cool way to document the year!

Call Mindy.
This is almost sad that I have to write this as a goal! Mindy is my long time bff! We are just about exactly the same age, and we have so much in common. She is one of those lifelong friends that it doesn't matter how often you talk, but you just pick right back up with. She lives in North Dakota right now with her husband and I hardly get to see her. We try to call each other fairly often, but it's been awhile! She is so busy, and so am I. I love that we both understand that too. I've got to block out like 2 hours so that we can catch up!!

I hope everyone has a productive July! I will update you on my progress when I share my goals for August. Leave a comment below with some of your monthly aspirations! Do you tend to set little goals or are you more of a go big or go home person?

  1. These are great goals to kick off the month. I also need a more regimented bible reading schedule. I try my best to do it before bed but I usually end up being so tired that I know I'm not getting the most out of it. Sierra Beautifully Candid

    1. Yes, I'm totally with you, before bed is not happening for me!

  2. I love these goals! Be sure to keep us posted on achieving them. Although I haven't picked up a bible in YEARS to read, I'm debating finding some verses to help me through some of the stress in my life.

  3. Great goals! With my best friend in California and myself in NC I understand the struggle. The distance and time change can play a big role in when we can talk.

    1. Thank goodness for texting! But there is just nothing like an old fashioned phone call! Thank you for reading Jess!

  4. Love these goals - easily attainable but still push you to be your best. I would say my goal this month is to start researching and buying baby items!

    1. Attainable is 100% my goal! I don't want to set myself up for failure, and these are things I do really want to accomplish.
I can't imagine all the research I would be doing if I were in your shoes! There is so much out there!!

  5. Starting the month this way is a great idea - you definitely have the right idea getting it down in a planner (I need one about x3 as bit as I do now - and keep meaning to check out Erin Condren!). North Dakota would be a cool place to visit - do you think you will get to see your friend this year? Best of luck preparing for the 12K - sounds like a plan to start getting ready early! Hope you had a great weekend!

    1. Writing it down, and then publishing this post made me feel committed! I always appreciate accountability.
I would love to visit her in North Dakota! We've been talking about it since she moved there. I don't think it will happen this year, but maybe in 2019!

    1. I agree! I'm not making it complicated, just a few words or a short sentence. I'm loving it already!

  9. Love these goals! I need a system for everything, too (which is probably why I'm terrible at exercising and reading the Bible and other things I try to do without any kind of routine). I use my planner all the time but I should be better about being grateful!
My bff lives two hours away and we see each other about once a month, but we call and text all the time in between visits! I love that you're making it a priority to keep in contact with Mindy!!

    1. Thank you Audrey! I'm glad you relate to me! I'm not alone!
Yes, thank goodness for texting and Instagram! Otherwise I'd be totally out of the loop.

  10. I love that you included that last goal! It makes all of this so stinkin' credible to me, like this post is really, truly a list you're attempting to cross off! I agree that making time to talk to a best friend can be harder than one think because you don't just want to talk for five minutes. You'll need a while, so it has to be a "date". Ha. :) Soooo fun about the 12k! You go girl!! I did a 5k yesterday and am about done with races. LOL. It kicked my tail.
