A modern Tangled retelling?! Sign me up! Ren grew up on a homestead with very overprotective parents. She goes away to Corona College where she meets Fitz - and a particular assignment throws them both for a loop.
This was so so cute, and if you like Tangled (it's my personal favorite) you'll love it. Just enough easter eggs and call backs - but still a unique story. I had no idea this series existed. This is actually #4 in a series of retellings.
Real Americans by Rachel Khong ⭐️⭐️⭐️.75
This story spans 3 generations: Lily, her son Nick, and her mother Mei. Mei fled China in the 70s and raised Lily very American. Lily decides to raise her own son differently.
Ultimately, this was very captivating. Each POV was unique. Sometimes I have a hard time with books that switch up narrators, but I did like each of these stories. Not what I was expecting, that's for sure.
Powerless by Lauren Roberts ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A YA fantasy in the Kingdom of Ilya. A plague swept through this kingdom, leaving the survivors with various powers. The King has ultimately decreed to eliminate regular, ordinary people so that the Kingdom only has Elites (those with powers). Paedyn is hiding in plain sight, Ordinary, but passing as an Elite. She's surviving just fine, until she accidentally rescues the Prince.
This is like The Hunger Games meets super powers. It's a great book to get you out of a reading slump. It's a fun YA, especially if you like lots of banter between the romantic leads. I read this one on our vacation, pictured above!
Reckless by Lauren Roberts ⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is the second installment in the Powerless series (I don't know if this is going to be a trilogy or what). It's very much a second book in the series, but if you like the first book, I think you'll like the 2nd! The ending was a big surprise.
