My Favorite Essential Oil Diffuser Blends

Thursday, August 24, 2017

Essential oils are kinda trendy right now, but I am totally on board. When I started developing sensitivity to scents it was the perfect solution for me. I just wanted my house to smell good without giving me a headache! Although there are a million uses for essential oils, my favorite thing is just diffusing nice blends that make me feel good and my house smell better! Today, I thought I'd share a few of my tried and true diffuser 'recipes' and I hope you'll tell me what you like to diffuse too!

When it's time for bed.
One of my absolute favorite part of my evening is starting the diffuser. It's so calming and it helps me unwind. Plus, the scent is now part of my routine and actually triggers sleepiness. I swear I sleep better too.
6 drops lavender & 4 drops sandalwood
When I need cheering up.
Or just when I want my house to smell good! I absolutely love citrus smells and I think it makes your home smell fresher and cleaner. There is a reason so many cleaners have lemon scent! This blend is incredibly uplifting. This is a great combo of citrus scents, but I often diffuse these oils on their own as well. (Bergamot would be a great addition to this blend also!)
3 drops lemon, 3 drops grapefruit, 3 drops orange & 1 drop lime
When I have a stuffy nose.
Sometimes I will use this blend at night because I wake up with a stuffy nose all the time. Side effect of sleeping with the fan on...but we live in Florida soooo not gonna change. This mixture of oil really does help with congestion.
3 drops lemon, 3 drops peppermint & 4 drops lavender
When I have a headache.
This one is pretty self explanatory, but I will say you need to get this going at the first sign of a headache. Combined with a roller, diffusing peppermint really can cut my headaches. But, I've tried it with an intense migraine and it really only takes the edge off. Get it going right away, before it gets too bad. I hate taking pills for headaches, but sometimes you have to. (I actually can't take Advil liquid gels! They make my heart race and I pass out!)
10 drops peppermint
Now Essential Oil Blends - Mental Focus & Clear the Air

When I need to focus.
Historically when I sit down to read a book, I fall asleep really quickly. My body just notices it's sitting still and that's it. But, sometimes I actually want to read! Especially when I am doing Bible study, I want to be really focused. Now Essential Oils has a few blends that I love, and it's easy because they are already concocted for me. Mental Focus is outstanding, but I will include it's ingredients here in case you want to make your own.
Lemon, Peppermint, Wintergreen, Basil, Rosemary & Grapefruit
When my pugs make my house stink.
I love my pugs, but I hate having a house that smells like I have 3 of them. My absolute favorite scent to diffuse is another Now blend called Clear the Air. It's minty and fresh and I love it. It's what is in my diffuser 75% of the time and I have gotten many compliments on it from guests! Again, I will include the ingredients here in case you want to attempt it yourself.
Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Hyssop, Rosemary
Leave a comment below if you are into essential oils! Tell me what you like to diffuse and what your favorite blends are. Are there any scents you don't like?

  1. I've only ever diffused three scents individually (lemon when I'm cleaning, lavender when I'm sleeping, peppermint when I'm sick), but I've been mixing lemon or jasmine with baking soda and deodorizing the carpets with that. It's been life changing :)

    1. Oooh! What a good idea! I bet that smells so nice and fresh. Goodness knows my carpet could use something like that.

  2. I love our service dogs, but I hate for my house to smell like a wet dog that works at Taco Bell. I will definitely give your blend a try.

    1. Haha, the mental image of a wet dog working at Taco bell cracked me up! Wet dog might be the worst smell there is.

  4. I'm SO with you on these! I love essential oils! My favorite one is the lavender. I haven't been using them lately for some reason but you've reminded me to pull them back out! They are really are a great way to relax and unwind.

  5. all my friends in texas have been on the essential oil bandwagon forever and I never got into it... but I could totally be persuaded. I love your recipes! I need to read an oils 101 somewhere... like how do you start? LOL

    1. Great question! There is so much conflicting information out there because of the big brands. I started with diffusing! Try out diffusing some scents on their own, and then you can try my favorites. I really like Now brand, but just make sure whatever you get is 100% pure oil.

  7. I can't say I've jumped on the essential oil bandwagon... If I'm at home and I happen to remember, I usually light up a candle. I do strain my back after all dragging heavy candles back from the States. HA Maybe essential oils is a better alternative!

    1. Lighting a candle is certainly easier and adds to the ambiance! I started using a diffuser because pretty much every candle started giving me a headache-even ones that I liked in the past! Stinks, but I do appreciate that oils are natural.
