Our Plated Experience

Wednesday, April 29, 2015

Imagine coming home from work and having your dinner on your porch. No shopping or meal planning involved. That is exactly why I decided to try Plated! My mom has been getting the deliveries for a few weeks now, and they have nothing but good things to say about Plated. She sent me a referral, so I figured why not try it out.
You start by picking a delivery date. Plated delivers on Tuesdays or Fridays. I picked Tuesday because I knew we had zero food in the house and it's so hard to meal plan around our busy schedule.
Next you pick your meals. Plated only ships when you have 4 plates (2 dinners) in your basket. There were 9 meal options to choose from. Definately a variety to meet the tastes and dietary restrictions of people. I chose: Crispy Roasted White Beans with Sorrel, Sumac, Feta and Yogurt Sauce & Chicken Paillard with Roasted Parmesan Crusted Asparagus and Smashed Potatoes. I will be blogging about cooking the Paillard Chicken.
When the box arrives at your door, it will stay cold all day so no need to worry about food rotting on your porch. I was so excited to see the box by the door when I got home. It was really just a relief not to have to go to the store and figure out what to make for dinner...sometimes it's just so hard! I feel like we do tacos every night sometimes.
It seems to run about 12 dollars a plate. I thought that was pretty pricey. With my mom's referral it only cost us $24 for 4 plates, which is why we even tried it. But, after making this dinner and seeing the quality of ingredients-$12 is great. We pay way more than that in a restaurant, and these are incredibly fresh and domestic ingredients.
Everything comes preportioned and in labeled packaging. The box itself is insulated and they give you several ice packs to keep your food cold until you get home. The ice packs are recyclable also.
In addition to your ingredients you get a recipe card, complete with pictured step by step instructions on how to make your dinner.

Overall the cooking experience was really easy. The directions are step by step and simple to understand. Each recipe comes with a difficulty level and nutrition info. This dinner was just over 600 calories-so it's not diet food, but it's really great ingredients and I didn't feel unhealthy eating it. You can even tell Plated to exclude certain ingredients if you have an allergy. Also, it was DELICIOUS. I haven't cooked anything that good in a while. We are going to try the 2nd recipe and then decide if we want to keep the subscription. You can get as many or as little deliveries as you like. But I'm pretty much sold already. A tad pricey maybe, but had we not gotten this delivery we would have ended up in the Dairy Queen drive thru. Instead we had a really high quality dinner for less than we spend at a sit down restaurant.
Leave me a comment: Have you ever tried plated? Or any other subscription service? What do you think?
Want your first meal for free? Tell me your email address and I will refer you!
