Savannah Women's Half Marathon 2023 Race Recap

Monday, April 10, 2023

Honestly, after doing my first Half Marathon in 2020 I never expected to run another. It was such an amazing accomplishment (there were definitely tears at the finish line), but I didn't feel like I need to do it again. It was so much work! I ran it with my sister, and I knew the only reason we both made it to the finish line was having each other. So, when she signed up for the Savannah Women's Half with some friends of ours, I knew I couldn't let her do it with out me. So, I signed up.

This race was completely different in terms of preparation. I felt a lot less prepared for this one. I was doing really well with my training plan until I got Covid in January. It took a long time to get my stamina back after that. And then since, it's just been a struggle to get in those high mile runs! Regardless, I really enjoyed this race!

The course is 13.1 miles through all of Savannah. There is so much to look at, and it's very shaded which was great. Plus, you get to run through some famous locations, including the Savannah Banana Baseball stadium. So much fun!

We had a great girls weekend, and were able to chow down on some amazing food before and after the race! Guilt free too.

I won't lie, it was tough. Mile 11 specifically. But, we did it! And there were more tears at the finish line. We did regret having a 3 story AirBnb afterwards...those stairs were killer!! Recovery was not too bad either - I was hurting the next day, but by Monday it was just a little soreness. I treated myself to a pedicure and a massage which really solved all my problems.
